My Mum and Dad started the business known as Hazels when I was only 4 years old.Being their eldest child I have been helping in the shop since before I could see over the counter. It was a small country store that sold a variety of items. We had a large migrant hostel at Smithfield, so Dad sold secondhand furniture, and helped many migrants to establish themselves in the new city of Elizabeth. I took over from Dad over 25 years ago, although he still helped in the shop and was greatly loved by his customers right up until his recent death. He was 94 and quite active.
